Who we are
Why did I create Lead Growth AI?
I built the tool I wished I had, the tool people in my position were missing.
My story isn’t unique, but the job market over the last five years has been incredibly unforgiving for job seekers. About a year and a half ago, I lost my job. New owners had taken over the local store I was managing, and they made it nearly impossible for any of the existing staff to stay. Within a year, they fired all of us to bring in cheaper labor.
It was a tough situation. By that point, I had over 15 years of continuous experience under my belt. I had successfully managed businesses, territories, and markets for Fortune 500 companies like Samsung, T-Mobile, and Hewlett-Packard, along with several mom-and-pop shops. I built my career as a top-performing sales guy and spent years successfully training others to do the same.
But nothing really prepares you for unemployment after working for 15+ years straight, especially in the new age of AI-driven Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS). These systems rank and reject you before a human ever sees your name, even when you’ve literally done the exact job you’re applying for, and done it well. I put in hundreds of applications and received hundreds of automated rejections. I tried every piece of advice recruiters threw at me. Many loved to place the blame on the applicant for not having a “good enough” resume, but if you actually took all their conflicting suggestions, your resume would be ten pages long and you’d be rejected for wasting their time. The reality is that these broken AI systems reject highly qualified candidates just as easily as unqualified ones. But I digress.
Needing to pivot, I decided to dive into the “gig” economy. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial streak. I even owned my own computer repair company back in the mid-2000s, so I figured, why not? A friend of mine owned a roofing company and offered to bring me on as a 1099 sales rep. The plan was to train under him, learn the roofing industry, and hopefully make some money.
But while I was learning the trade, I learned an even more valuable lesson: getting leads is the hardest part of the job.
My training was constantly stunted simply because I had no roofs to climb, no siding to measure, and no windows to inspect. To help out, I offered my understanding of social media and volunteered to solicit B2B deals from apartment complexes. I managed to grow their Facebook page from a few hundred views a month to several thousand.
During this process, we discovered a goldmine: local Facebook groups. Potential clients were constantly posting in these groups asking for service recommendations. The catch? Within minutes, those posts would be flooded with dozens of comments from other roofers, their friends, and past clients. We quickly realized that only the first 3 to 10 businesses to comment ever got a response. If you weren’t first, you didn’t get the call.
This turned into a daily nightmare of manually scanning 20+ Facebook groups, just hoping to get lucky and comment fast enough. The leads were there, but the process was exhausting. On top of that, my friend was hesitant to let me pitch apartment complexes or property management companies. It wasn’t that he didn’t trust my sales acumen; it was because I didn’t have his 25 years of industry knowledge to confidently answer their technical questions.
That’s when the “What if?” moments started hitting me.
What if we didn’t have to scroll endlessly through Facebook anymore, and high-intent leads just appeared on our screen? What if I didn’t need to possess 25 years of roofing experience to sell like an expert? What if we could build a system that mimicked his deep understanding of the industry and made the exact suggestions he would make? What if I didn’t have to spend all day searching Google for commercial prospects, and could instead instantly generate dozens of unique, highly-tailored emails filled with his specific business knowledge? What if the outreach was indistinguishable from him writing it himself, leaving me to just verify the accuracy and hit send?
That frustration and those questions led to the creation of Lead Growth AI. I built this platform to do exactly that, and so much more.
